We went to this site to visit the monastery near by. We were able to catch a bus there. The El Escorial is the final resting place of kings and queens of Spain . It is also a fine display of art. Worth a visit. The site itself could have been tidied up a bit, it was very large and empty.
We stayed here for a week in the middle of May, the campsite was less than 10% occupied and so we had plenty of space. We paid to upgrade the standard ACSI pitch to a VIP one (bigger with water on pitch) but didn\'t really need to do this as the site was so empty. Immaculate sanitary facilities which were heated, despite the lack of people on-site the supermarket was well-stocked and the bar open during the day. One excellent heated outdoor swimming pool was open as well, the site was regularly patrolled and quiet. This site is run by a French company and the checkin staff all speak fluent Spanish, French and English. There are a lot of permanent chalets here and in the summer when the site is full and the bar open to 11pm the ambience may be different. Recommended, we would return again.
We were here for 2 nights, intending to stay longer, but the weather was so awful that we just had to move on in search of some sunshine.
We chose this site for a visit to Segovia, to see the wonderful Roman aqueduct - a marvel you have to see. Apart from a Dutch touring group, we were the only ones on this massive site, and most of the (hundreds of) permanent chalets were empty. The pitches are all grass but quite acceptable amongst the trees, and close to the many facilities - supermarket, pool, cafe, restaurant etc. The only trouble was that the shower block for tourers, which has a chemical loo, was closed for the winter, and there was no such toilet in the other shower block. When I asked where to empty the chemical toilet, I was told to use the Motor home drainage point. I have a problem with doing that, and I thought the idea was pretty awful. Anyway, all the water down there was turned off so I would not have been able to rinse. I decided to wait until the next place!
Having said that, the reception was excellent and I can see that in warmer weather this would be a good site.
The biggest site with nearly seven hundred pitches and then twice that of statics that we have ever stayed on but it means there is everything there that a family could want. However in November most of it is closed and the shop is only open mornings. Of the ten to fifteen caravans there only about six were occupied so it was very quiet. The English speaking staff were helpful. We paid E4 for a serviced pitch which was a reasonable size.At this time of year I should think you could park on the next pitch if size was a problem. Drove to Escorial Palace early and got parking on a meter right outside and not dear for the convenience. Seniors take your passports to the Palace and the Valley of the Fallen for discounted entry.
Pitches good size but very messy when rains. Shop only open morning. No problems visiting Valle de los Caidos but unable to find parking space for our 7.5 M motorvan at San Lorenzo del Escorial. This was a disappointment as was a main reason for staying at site. You need a car to visit as a long cycle ride and definitely too far to walk. Wifi free but only available around cafe area. Not so good when raining and cafe shut. Although all year site electric only 5amps and very temperamental switched off 5 times one evening and we were definitely not overloading. Neighbours had same problem.
Stayed for 10 days here. Busy at weekends but quiet during the week. Excellent, clean facilities. Shop good. Pools great. A really good centre for seeing things without moving. Madrid on the bus from top of lane €4.20. Avila and Segovia 45 mins or train from El Escorial. Fantastic mountain walking from Navacerrada just 15 miles. Great base for Madrid province. Plenty of shade in heat but its cooler up here than in Madrid.
We spent 5 nights here 22nd - 27th May. Massive site. We arrived Sunday afternoon as Madrilenos were leaving after weekend break. Avoid weekend if you want a quiet and less crowded stay. Excellent site, well organised and well run. Shop well stocked. Restaurant was not open. The bus stop to Madrid is at least a 20-25 minute walk, which was disappointing. Luckily, we didn't have rain. Would use this site again. There is a train station at El Escorial. It is an interesting town to visit. The Palace & grounds are closed on a Monday.
This is a very large campsite and it is well run. Rules regarding noise after midnight and traffic speed are enforced ( hooray!) Bar & shop hours are limited out of season. Shower block was spotlessly clean. Convenient for visiting Madrid, Segovia & Avila.
Huge campsite, lovely at the moment as not full, people do come out from Madrid at weekends apparently. Excellent facilities and very clean. Free wifi at cafeteria. A good sized supermarket.
In late March it was very quiet, wouldn't be our choice of site in high season.
Member of staff came to our pitch to inform us of a short cut in the electricity. Was only out for a short time but we thought it good they informed us. Sanitary block we used was very clean and plenty of hot water.
Weather wasn't great, cold at night and snowed on the mountains, looked very pretty.
Excellent for visiting El Escorial monastery and we went to Segovia, in fact we tried one day only to turn around because of the weather conditions on the mountain.
We would certainly return out of high season, but note the girl on reception was not aware of the 7 nights for 6 offer. If you intend to use it take the book with you when you pay.
