Site very quiet, pitches small & cramped. The much talked about lamb was disappointing & very expensive. Toilet facilities very tired but clean. Not a lot to see around the area. The site fees were expensive for this site.
we decided to travel to this site from Caravanning Oyambre site which is superb as the reviews in general were good. what a disappointment. The place is run down, shabby to say the least and pitches tiny. we have a Eriba tourer and when siteing van and car there was no other room to sit out. This was without either a canopy or awning (no chance). The owner\'s son who runs the place could be labeled laid back, I would describe him couldn\'t care less!
Tried to talk us into the special meal which is always slow cooked lamb apparently. We considered but decided to cook ourselves. Some neighbours who arrived at same time tried it and their opinion was expensive for whatever it is as she did not think it was lamb !.
We went for a drink in the cafe/bar area but no seats as seems full of locals. Went to the Games room to finish drinks as it chilly to sit outside, this room is used as store come broken equipment area. Pool table had 3 big rips in cloth , a electronic darts board not connected, fuss ball game which might have worked and lots of other junk.
During the night I was awakened by my car alarm sounding at 04:30am . Went to look but no one around and checked car to see if I could have left something slightly open but no everything secure !!!
We decided to leave this morning.
This is our favourite site so far and we are still travelling (middle of May). We stayed here in early April. The reception staff (dont know his name) was really helpful and spoke really good English and nothing was too much trouble. The camp site is small but fabulous. Great little bar and restaurant. The little town is so beautiful and the views are outstanding. The castle is well worth a visit. Nice big climb up there but well worth it. Good for cycling around the area as it\'s quite flat. Will definitely go back there (one day).
Great site, very quiet. It\'s situated on the edge of a very old village, with a castle at the top, miles from anywhere. The facilities were very clean and had very hot water, as said before the shower taps were strange, but you could override the push button, perhaps one day they will change it, probably a good idea at the time, which never worked. We had the roast leg of lamb, cooked in the bread oven, which we would recommend, although a little pricey, was worth the treat. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We would be happy to return.
A nice relaxed campsite, kept spotlessly clean. Hosts were great and very friendly. The special meals were great, we had Sat slow roasted lamb from the outdoor oven. Very good value when you consider what you are getting. Views, walks, castle etc are stunning. Toilets, showers etc are clean and perfectly adequate. I always say if you want a boutique bathroom, stay in a hotel! Spent 3 nights and 2 days and feeling blessed. Sad to go! (We did have great weather).
Son of site owner surly and rude, Roberto. We arrived after a long journey from Uk. Roberto more interested in packing up for the winter than serving us. Site run down, awful not suitable for long outfits. We were stuck in mud when we woke up. I am a fluent Spanish speaker and after some persuasion managed to get Roberto to gets some help for us which we were prepared to pay for. Our outfit was referred to as a \"joke\" in a private conversation between Roberto and farmer who came to help us which I overheard. I questioned the remark and Roberto walked away.....
Lovely site. Only spent 1 night on way back to ferry. wished we could have stayed longer. Great pitches but evidence of vehicles sinking in and having difficulty in wet weather. Showers a bit difficult to use and possibly too few if site is full.
Lovely meal (lamb) - book 3 hours in advance, definitely recommend.
Wi - Fi only available in bar area not 80% as in information guide.
We very much enjoyed our stay and wish we had stayed longer. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The setting is gorgeous - I got up early to take photos of the dawn creeping up on the tower of the Templars\' castle above the site. Everything worked well, though the WiFi was a bit feeble.
We arrived here in may 2016 only to find ourselves stuck in the mud. The staff were very unhelpful with lots of shrugging and arm waving. Not keen to get us out at all. Eventually one of them tugged us forward and we were able to get off the site. Did not like the attitude and the site itself looked scruffy and basic. We decided to move on to another more helpful and civilised site. Would not recommend staying here.
We stayed here two nights in the Campervan and would come back to this campsite on a future visit. Staff were extremely helpful, especially Robert with good English. A well stocked shop on site. Wifi at the cafe/ bar. Facilities good. Showers were a little odd - cold water on with a push button hot water - but you soon get the hang of them! Pitches were spacious and privacy was good. The view of the castle above the campsite was just breathtaking. Excellent area for exploring on foot or bicycle locally. Castrojeriz is charming. The Camino de Santiago Trail goes through the place so very interesting. My husband walked / pushed the bike to the castle - not for the less than fit but worth the visit and for the views. We ate in the restaurant and were lucky to be able to partake of the amazing slow cooked lamb - a meal to die for! Well worth every penny. Highly recommend this campsite.
